Question
we went on are normal day ... when we came home we found the door to the bunny room ( no cages for us ) open and hurbert missing.... when me found  him he was just sitting in his hiding spot behind the chair .. his fur was all dried from I think being licked and nipped at... I picked him up gently and placed him back in his room he drank and ate and hopped into his corner an his blanket .. but he is different .....hurbert is deaf and has always not being a normal bunny .. but now he really really does not whant anything to do with us and just wants to lay in his corner .. what can i do to help perk him up to as much as he perks up lol... thank you ....

Answer
Dear Janine,

Hurbert is lucky to be alive.  Even if the dog might not intend to hurt him, the poor bunny could have died from the stress of this attack, due to cardiac arrest and/or shock.

In a case like this, the rabbit must be kept very quiet in a dimly lit place that is warm and still.  Wipe the dog slobber off with a warm, moist washcloth, and dry gently with a dry washcloth, but don't overdo.  Just enough to remove some of the smell of the attacker.

Talk softly to the bunny, and comfort him, but not to excess.  He needs to be allowed to know that he's safe and will not be harrassed.  If possible, get him to a good rabbit vet ASAP:

for treatment for shock:  subQ fluids, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc.

And I hope that you'll never leave Hubert in a condition where the dog can get to him again.  Next time, he may not be so lucky.
