Question

Dolly
I have cared for rabbits for years and successfully bread lionheads with no still births or early deaths so I should know plenty but I'm a little stumped here.
I bought a beautiful Yellow continental giant now 13 weeks) Doe from a very good breeder a couple of weeks ago, she's more than happy and already a very well behaved house rabbit, I only keep house rabbits. When she came to me the breeder gave me some medicated rabbit food (massey was the brand if I remember rightly) I have never used medicated food and know little about it, anyway,I've weaned her onto burges junior and the same brand barn dried grass which she appears to enjoy, aside that I haven't given her anything and put vitamin drop in her water, this is how I've treat all my kits in the past until about 5 months old,
Since about 2 to 3 days ago I've noticed Dolly has had rather a large tummy, she doesn't appear to be in any discomfort, no teeth grinding or different behavior but her tummy just feels and looks really big in proportion to the rest of her. She did live with 4 boys until I bought her, the rest of the litter where boys and as far as I'm aware the breeder thought she was a boy, but I'm told that rabbits don't get pregnant this young, is this the case?
I hope you can advise me in some way, I have added a pic but I think it's difficult to see what I mean because she has a lot of fur
Thanks
Clare

Answer
hi clare i have known rabbits pregnant at 12 weeks old so she may well be pregnant.from the pic she looks quite big for 13 weeks so treat her as being pregnant for the time being and see how it goes -if she gets a bit aggressive its a good sign she is pregnant.dave.
