Question
Our pet rabbit is about 1 1/2 years old and is a flop-eared dwarf. He is acting normal but there is a rather large spot extending from just above his tail up his spine where it seems as if the outer fur has fallen out; the skin is quite flaky.  He cannot reach it but loves us to rub it.  What is the cause and what should we do?  Many thanks, Shawn

Answer
There could be a number of things going on.  It could be part of a normal shed, or mites, or ringworm.  You could check out http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#skin and see if it possibly matches anything they refer to before you decide if it needs treatment or not.
