QuestionI came back home today and i went to feed my rabbit when i saw him lying on the ground (we don't keep a hutch, but we've had him for about 5 years now) and when i picked him up to inspect him, his body was rather stiff and then floppy making it difficult to hold. I wrapped him in a towel, with another one to support his head. I placed him next to a heater, but he sometimes started to shake and his teeth were moving up and down slowly. His temperature was lower than usual, and he was still floppy, i think he was very weak. My sister came home about half an hour later, where when i was researching advice and his problem (we are rather young, we couldn't drive to the vet). He stopped breathing about 5-10 mins after my sister came home. I can't bear it. What was going on? We fed him adequately, but rats had been attracted and we tried everything to stop them stealing the food, he was strong, and loved exploring the garden with us (we have a large strong fence). I don't belive what could of hurt him. He had no wounds and there were little animals to harm him. Help?
AnswerHello Anon! I am so sorry for your loss.
I just recenlty lose a doe who was special to me.
Right now I an very concerned about you and your sister. If what you are telling me is correct you have kept your rabbit for 5 yrs now and it has been on the ground among some rodents and he has been healthy up till now and he just all of a sudden died due to stiffening and shakeing I would be alarmed. You really need to get with an adult and have your rabbit examined by a vet and you need to tell the vet exactly what happened and tell your parents to handle the rabbit form now on there may be a major problem with the rats and your rabbit tell the vet to test for the pleague i hate to alarm you but I would rather be safe in this situation. good luck. This may not be any thing to be alarmed at also your rabbit may have just been old and may have died due to age and maybe lack of water or heat stroke if it was outside in the heat.
