Not eating, trouble breathing

Question
I took in an orphaned 3-4 week old wild rabbit approx. 10 days ago.  I have been feeding turnip tops, carrot, alphalpha, and KRM milk.  I also have pellets and water available, but he is not very interested in either. All was well until yesterday.  He suddenly appears to be having trouble breathing and is eating very little.  He is urinating and defecating normally though.  He does not appear dehydrated.  My plan is to turn him loose in a couple of days if all is well.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Dear Matt,

A bunny who is not eating is usually pretty sick.  You'll need to get him to a vet who is experienced with rabbits right away.  You can find one here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

It would probably have been best for the person who found him to have left him where he was.  Baby cottontails leave the nest and *appear* abandoned at about the age of 3-4 weeks, but mama stays nearby and out of sight so she can feed the babies without attracting predators.  Rabbit milk changes pH and provides antibodies for the changing, developing babies, and without this the babies can often develop very serious and even life-threatening GI tract disorders.

I hope it's not too late for this little guy, but please get him to the vet right away for subQ fluid therapy and other supportive care.

Good luck,

Dana
