Pet Rabbit chewing electrical cords!

Question
How do you get a pet rabbit to stop chewing electric cords!!!

Answer
Dear David,

Short answer:  You can't.  The only solution is to "bunny proof" the cords so you don't end up with a barbecued rabbit and a house burned down.

There are plenty of ways to protect the cords, but I've found that the most aesthetically pleasing is to run narrow PVC plumbing pipe along the walls and send the wires through them.  The pipe can be painted to match the walls or flooring, and you won't even notice it.

If the bunny is chewing cords on tables or other areas where PVC won't work, then thick, clear plastic tubing (available at Home Depot or other large hardware outlet) slit longitudinally can be slipped over the cords (all the way to the plug!) so bunny can't get to the wire even if s/he chews the tubing.

Radio shack sells cord protectors for pet-proofing, but they're a bit expensive.  We prefer the tubing as described because it's not expensive, and it works well.

Hope that helps!
