cyst or regrowth?

Question
Hi,

I have a 2 year old neutered male rabbit. Today while giving him a routine cleaning, I noticed that there are two watery sak like growths just below his penis, right side larger than the other. They do not feel hard and do not seem to cause him pain when touched. Do you think that his testicles have grown back or could this be something more serious, like a cyst?

Answer
Dear Steven,

If you are absolutely sure that your bunny was neutered, then this could be a problem.  His testicles will not have grown back, but a neutered bunny's scrotum normally shrivels up and is nearly undetectable.  If your bunny's scrotum is visible and appears to have something inside, then I wonder if he was "neutered" before his testicles descended, and you are just now noticing that they actually were never removed...or if he has a scrotal abscess.

I can't really guess without seeing the bunny, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a rabbit-savvy vet look him over and make sure he really was neutered.  If he was, then the vet will be able to tell you what's wrong with the scrotum.

If you don't have a good rabbit vet, you should be able to find one here:

Hope that helps!  Please write back if you have more questions.
