Question
Hi,

We brought home our new bunny from a local pet store 10 days ago.  We were told at the time that she was probably one month old, we named her "Hemi".  The first day Hemi did not eat any pellet or drink any water, then we started feeding her carrots and romain lettuce.  She loves both. She seems to be digesting the veggies very well, and never had any diarrhea.  We have a cage for her and have blocked off a large section of a room  to serve as a play pen for her. We never lock her in her cage, we kept the cage in her pen with the door open.  We set up a corner of the pen with newspaper and aspen shavings that serve as her litter box/corner. She normally poops at that area and pees there as well.  However, around two times per day she'll pee in 2 other corners too.  She has grown twice her size since 10 days ago, she is around 10 inches long with her paws tucked underneath her.  She has a tremendous appetite.  We feed her  2- 3 cups of veggies in the morning and will give her hay through out the day and she gets a hand full of veggies at night.  She  does not drink too much water but she does pee a few times a day.  She now also likes and eats pallets that we give her in a small quantity as supplement every day.  She seems to be constantly looking for food.  Are we feeding her too little?  She seems to be growing bigger and bigger every day, is this normal? When will she stop getting bigger, and how big will she eventually get? I seriously doubt that she is only one month old, she must be older than that, but how old?  Should I be concerned that she doesn't like to drink water?  I don't know what kind of bunny she is, probably mixed.  Her ears point up, she has short, light brown fur with one patch of white on her right front paw, and she has a tiny fluffy tail.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Regards,
Linda

Answer
Pet stores generally sell rabbits that are 6 to 8 weeks old, so she could get a lot larger depending on what breed she is.

You might want to read this info for new bunny owners at http://www.rabbit.org/care/new-bunny-index.html

If she is drinking something, and getting water off the veggies, then she should be getting enough.

Her adult weight could be anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds, it really depends on what breeds she consists of.

Baby bunnies grow very, very quickly, be sure to read the diet information to make sure you are giving her the food she needs.
