mites in rabbits

Question
Hi Sarah,
I have a one year old mini-lop who is constantly scratching and plucking hair out of his hind legs and chest. I originally thought he had fleas and gave him Advantage (according to the vet) however he has not improved. Furthermore, I am constantly grooming and inspecting his fur and have never seen a fully grown flea. However, I am finding little 'critters' which look similar to human lice eggs, however they seem to be moving. Again I took Lenny (my boy) to the vet and they have given him Revolution as it may be mites. Also, he is shedding large amounts of hair (which isn't right seeing as it's winter...) would this just be due to skin irritation and stress?

Do you have any advice on this situation? I have read that mites can be transferred via their hay, so should I get rid of his bale of hay that he eats and buy a new one?

Thanks for your help,

Lucy

Answer
hello lucy

moulting is very common in rabbits, they usually moult twice a year in winter and summer. im sorry but im not sure what it could be, keep using the medicine that the vet gave you as it may take time to work. you could try giving him a bath.
