I wrote to you about my pregnant guinea pig Sweetie Pie a couple of weeks ago. Well she's still pregnant but tonight after I cleaned out their cage and gave them food (they stay outside), Sweetie Pie made these strange noises and stood still. They sounded like "tchoo tchoo tchoo", a mix of toot toot and choo choo! It sounded like it might be breathing noises. But she did them for awhile and I went to touch her, cause I was really quite scared of why she was making this noise and she walked a foot away and made the noises again. She continued to kinda walk around a little and make them, but mosquitos and ants started to bite me so I left. I gave her other little boy away today to a good home, so now it's only Sweetie Pie and her baby girl Elly--who I'm keeping. Why do you think she was making these noises? Could it have been because a mosquito or something bit her? I'm a little worried.
Thank-You,
Arielle
Answer -
Hello again Arielle. I'm not sure on the noises. I've not got much experience with guinea pigs housed outside (most people keep them inside or in a garage/barn type thing). Was it like sneezing or did it seem like she was in pain?
A pregnant sow will make noises when she delivers, but its more of a squeal from pushing the babies out.

Well actually she sounded kind of like a whistle while breathing. I'm going to check up on her right now.

AnswerIf she was/is doing it with every breath then it sounds like she is having a little difficulty breathing. Is it too hot outside for her? Put a frozen bottle of water in the cage for her to lean on if she gets hot. It could also be a sign of pneumonia. Guinea pigs are very susceptible to upper respiratory infections as well.
