Question
hi plz help me
i have 2 gorgeous guinea pigs, and found out my 3 yr old has a severe reaction to them,so i have had to put them outside im gutted and so are the kids.
i am a total animal nut i even tried bringing them back in but he got really poorly again.
anyway they are in the playhouse which is solid and in a hutch in there but they pee that much everything gets wet and that means my babas get wet oh and i check them 3 times a day for food hugs and change of hot water bottles.

what i really want to no is how else i can keep them warm and should i find them a new home for their own?
what worries on that apart from breaking my heart is what if someone else gets them and keeps them outside or just gets bored and doesnt look after them.
i would never forgive myself, when i bought them it was to keep in the house hug feed take vets and protect as they cant.
beating myself up on this cant sleep dont know what to do for the best.

Answer
Hi mig,

I am rally sorry to hear about your problem. This is going to be a tough one to solve for you. I would not recomend anyone keep their guinea pigs outside. They are more prone to illness cold and becomeing prey for any animals in the area. However, there are people who do keep herds of pigs in hutches in the backyard. There are several options for keeping your animals warm. You could use some kind of heating pad, or lamp. Most pet stores sell heat lamps for reptiles that might be a good option here. However, the fire hazard is very real and you would have to discuss this with your local pet shop employees.

However, if you would like to find them another home, that might be the best option in this case. You might have a friend who you know will be kind to them who would like them. Then you could go visit them and see how they are doing. I would also recommend you look at local guinea pig rescues. The best guinea pig rescues only adopt out to people they know will take care of those animals. And they do checks on the piggies after a few weeks. This might be your best option to consider. Good luck.
