icky eye

my daughter's guinea pigs  right eye is all pusy and ozzy looking, we tried wiping it out w/ a warm wash cloth but it won't go away what could it me

Hello Kristen,

Sounds like she may have had an eye injury that got infected. A vet would be your best option. If you can't get her to the vet, go to the pharmacy and get some sterile saline solution to flush her eye. The check your local feed store for Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment. Flush her eye 2 - 3 times a day and apply the ointment afterwards Just a stripe across her eye. It may help to have more than one person hold her. If she manages to blibk while you are putting the ointment in, just gently pry her eye open again and the medicine should go in. If it doesn't start to show any improvement in a few days, she'll need to see a vet. I do recommend a vet as soon as you can though as that, as always, is the best choice. Whichever you choose, you need to act quickly to save her sight. Good luck!
