QuestionMy guinea pig, Pancake, had two babies 2 weeks ago, one boy and one girl. Tonight I noticed the boy is trying to mount his mother while making purring noises. He has also been more independent of his mom and sister in the past couple days. Both babies climb on pancake, but this behavior is different. Should I separate him already? I thought that boys did not become sexually active till 3-4 weeks.
Thank you,
Cortney
AnswerHi Cortney,
Male guinea pigs can breed once they are 21 days old, but they may try to mount females as young as two weeks old. If the pups are only two weeks you shouldn't have to worry-yet, be sure to seperate the male and females when they are 21 days old, no later!
