Question
Hi there, was wondering if you could advise me? We got two guinea pigs around 2 weeks ago and they were fine together at first. One is older than the other and is trying to mount the smaller one, resulting in a scuffle or two.Can you tell me if getting them neutured will resolved this?
Ours boys have become quite attached to them but they won't let them handle them,so they are not settling in.
Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated

Answer
Hi Tara

A bit of mounting, scuffling, chasing, sniffing bottoms is quite normal between two males as they establish which is to be the dominant male. This should settle down within a couple of weeks.

As long as no actual fighting occurs and chattering teeth, pacing of back feet then there is no need to worry. Neutering usually doesnt have any affect.

Try to encourage your boys to have the pigs on their lap while watching tv. Piggies dont bite and love human attention, stroking etc. As their confidence grows they can handle the pigs.
