Question
I have a Guinea Pig of about 2-3 years old (rescued) and her companion died suddenly very recently.  After the death she really interacted more with me and seemed a lot friendlier.  I thought it was because she was lonely, so yesterday I got another Pig.  6 months old.  They seemed fine together and they were in the same cage overnight, but today I have noticed the younger one nipping the older one.  It also appeard the older one has been 'thrown out' of her bedroom. (they are kept inside)  What do you think the best solution to this would be - I really don't want either to be unhappy, but it seems the younger one is almost bullying the older one.  Thanks

Answer
It happens. It is normal for them to be like that. In the wild, they create herds. In every heard, there is a leader. If there is no leader, there pack will not survive. Even in captivity, this instinct is still present. They will nip and maybe even fight. One will rule over the other. The one that is being bullied will be okay, they dont think of it as bad, its how it is suppose to be, its all they know. It will not cause unhappiness at all, and eventually the nipping will lessen and lessen. Odly though I am surprised about the new guy being the leader, usually it is the that is in the "territory" (cage) first, unless the new guy is bigger. Usually the outcome is the bigger the pig, the more likely they ar ethe leader, unless he is a big coward:) Good luck!
