Two girl guinea pigs not getting along

Question
Hi Mrs. Jones,

My name is Stephen and I'm a huge guinea pig lover and wondered if you could help me with something. My little sister (10) just got her first guinea pig about 6 months to a year ago. It's a girl. Just yesterday (11/15/07) she got another little baby girl from the same mommy. Now the newest one is still a baby but the older girl is a giant who has had the cage all to herself. When we put the baby in the cage with her older sister the older guinea pig had a fit, so every time we put the two together now the little baby wants to cuddle up and be nice but the older sister literally bites her every time she gets close. We really aren't sure how to make the two get along and wondered if you could help.

Thanks,
Stephen

Answer
Hello Stephen,
you need to have patience and take your time with introducing the two. They should be introduced in a neutral territory and given a chance to get to know each other.
They need to be introduced outside the cage and it will take days sometimes for it to work. Here is more information on how to introduce the two as well as information on the dominance behavior you will see. The younger one will probably get nipped at by the older one but this is normal and you shouldn't seperate them. They will eventually settle down and become the best of friends. :)
