Question
Im really not sure how old my sons guinea pig is. We've had her for going on 3 months and she is still fairly small.  She was cage mates with a bunny which Im pretty sure is a female also. In the past week or two Miss Piggy started to what looks like bloat her stomach is really hard on the sides...She is still really active and we were wondering what might be going on with her?

Answer
Hello Starr,

It may very well be bloat. Could she have gotten something she shouldn't have (such as a plastic bag)? Has she eaten alot of cabbage or cabbage related veggies? Those are both common causes of bloat. Bloat can also be caused by an injury, possibly and accidental kick from the bunny. Is she still pooing? Give her lots of extra hay. The fiber may help and I recommend her seeing a vet as soon as possible, especially if she has stopped pooing. Ovarian Cysts and tumors can also cause a swelling of the abdomen, so a vet is really the best idea, especially if the extra hay doesn't fix the problem.
