Will our hamster be ok with our friends gerbils?

My friend has asked me to look after her gerbils, I already have a male hamster.  Will they all be ok in the same room in their cages or should they be separated.  I guess it would not be sensible to let them run around together is this correct.

they will be fine in the same room as each other  - but don't let them out together or meet each other face to face as I would imagine they would attack each other.  I keep gerbils as well as hamsters in cages that are side by side and they don't take any notice of each other.
