Question
hi, I have a boxer female that has mated with my male boxer. I tried to keep them apart but I failed. the problem is she has had a litter in the past where one of the pups was born with a rare genetic heart problem. it was undetected until 5 months. I do not want to have this litter because I don't want to cause heartbreak if another pup comes down with this. what should I do?

Answer
If the breeding took place a day or two ago, you could have your vet give her the mismate shot. If it's been longer than that, I'd suggest that you go ahead a have her spayed. If she has produced a puppy with a heart problem before, then I'd suggest that she go ahead and be spayed anyway. I applaud you for not wanting to produce puppies with known genetic diseases. A vet will go ahead and spay her even though she's been bred. Good luck!
