Mom bleeding 5 wks after pups

Question
My Shih-Tzu had her first litter on October 12th and still has slight bleeding.  She had a little bit of trouble giving birth and wouldn't push at the end so I had to gently pull out the puppy.  This has never happened to our other moms.  What do you recommend?  Should I go to the vet or is there something natural that I can give her.  Also, different question, one of the puppies is snorting up thin milky mucus (I believe or possibly milk)  is that a cold and how do I treat him?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Liz. It's most definitely not normal for mom to still be bleeding this long. I would highly suggest taking both mom and puppies in to the vet for a check up to find out what's going on with them. Something's not right, and I'd do it before the Thanksgiving Holiday. You don't want to wait much longer on this. As for the puppies, dogs don't get colds like we do. If they're having any sort of symptoms like you described, then they need to be seen by the vet fast. If it is milk, then it could lead to pneumonia. I hope they're all ok!
