Question
Hi my dog was expecting, she is a miniature schnauzer.  Well my grandmother has been in the hospital so we left expecting her to deliver until the week of the 25th, only to find her the next day extremely skinny, and bleeding some, my question is: do miniature schnauzers eat their newborns?  We looked for them everywhere and cannot find them, at the same time though there are no blood stains anywhere or anything of that sort.. We have no idea what happended to them.

Answer
Eating babies is not a breed specific problem. Any breed can, and under the right circumstances will. She might have had them and eaten them in a panic. She might've hidden them and you haven't found them yet.  You wouldn't believe some of the places they can get into. She might also have not known how to take them out of the sack, or get them to breathing well and if they all died she would've eaten them out of instinct to protect herself from predators. Poor baby girl. She will need some extra loving to get her through her loss. Also be careful that she doesn't get an infection from having milk and no babies to feed. I'm so sorry.
