Question
Hi,my wife and i have a olde English bull dog,he's going to be two years old on July 5th 2008.We have his paper's showing his dad and mom and where they are from, but we did not buy from a breeder rather from a pet store with a very good background. My question is how to i go about studding my [bruiser].How do you pick a stud fee etc,how do you set a dollar amount when my dog has never throw puppies before. Also is it important to do a dna test and a hip test also .Thank you for your time Sam & Andera

Answer
Hi Guys

The Olde's are our breed of choice and the ones we breed.

When studding out you have to be careful of a number of things. What is the stud fee (if you male is inexperienced), what constitutes a litter, who is going to bring their dog to whom?

You have to worry about STD's, so test should be done. But the number one problem I see in the breed today are that their are too many "breeders" breeding dogs with genetic problems.  Skin, eye, soft pallett, etc.

Do the lines your male comes from come from healthy stock? What inherent health issues are you going to contribute to the breed?

All of these have to be discussed before hand and it comes down to what are you going to guarantee as the stud's owner.  Testing is always recommended before breeding.

And finally, are the owners of the female you pick going to be able to place puppies, or will they too go to a pet store for resale?
