Question
Hi there, I'm actually needing your expertise here. I recently has a litter of gsd pups. Parents pure German bloodlines. Sadly pups turned out to be sable colored. How is this so ?

Answer
Hi Daniel. I didn't mean to take so long in getting back to you, but you stumped me, and I was trying to figure it out. :-) From what I gather, both parents have to carry the sable gene in order for the pups to be born with that color. I'm going to give you a link that explains the colors and patterns in the gsd. It seems to be a really good site, and explains it very well. I'm not sure if sable is a bad thing in your breed, or not. I know I wasn't much help, and I'm sorry. But like I said, from what I understand by reading that site, is that both parents have to carry the gene for the pups to show the color. A good gsd breeder would be of much more help to you. I'm sorry, but if I can help with anything else, let me know!
