Question
My pit 3 yrs old had a very good pregnancy. absolutly no problems. When she came into labor, we had her have an ulrtasound to make sure everything was fine for delivery. The pups semmed fine and had heartbeats. She came home and delivered that night two stillbirth puppies. They were just fine a few hours before, but the vet said the placentas probably detached too soon. Is this common? Do you think if she was bred again that she could have a normal birth?

Answer
Hi. This is usually the cause for early labor, and the nasty greenish discharge you sometimes see before the birth of the first puppy. For both of them to be still born, I would wonder about any injuries that she may have incountered, or any chemicals that she may have gotten in to. For the pups to have been fine that morning, and been born dead that evening would have me wondering what could've happened. However, with puppies, as any living thing, sometimes these things happen and we don't have an answer. As to your question if she can be safely bred again, I would have her checked over and see if anything comes up, have her thyroid checked as well. If she gets a clean bill of health, then I would try again. I'm sorry this happened to you guys.
