Question
I mated my male the female had 4 puppies How many of the litter do I get?

Answer
Hi Jene.  There are no laws governing your question concerning how many puppies the owner of the stud dog is in title to.  Normally this is a topic that is discussed and agreed upon between the two dog owners, before breeding takes place.

The most common agreement is that the owner of the male dog, gets to select one puppy to keep in leu of a stud service fee.  Some breeders agree to sale all the puppies and split the sale price.  Other breeders, myself included, charge a Stud Service Fee, for the male's services, which is due at the time of mating, and does not take a puppy from the litter.

No matter which of the above you and your partner decide on, you should have it in writing so that there are no misunderstandings later on.  To view a copy of my standard Stud Service Contract you can visit the following link:

Good luck and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.
