Question
QUESTION: What do you think the chances of my bitch taking if she was A.I'd when her progestrone was at 19, and the day after, which I don't know the progestrone that day. Have you heard of other litter taking on this day and after? Thanks.

ANSWER: Usually, with numbers like that, that means she's already ovulated. The eggs need 48 to mature and become fertile, so you may have a slight chance here. It's honestly hard to say, especially since we really don't know when she ovulated. Every bitch is different. Her levels may spike like that a day or so after ovulating, or may spike days after. If they spiked just a day or so after ovulating, then you have a chance. I have a really good web site that explains this a lot better than I can. www.woodhavenlabs.com/progesterone-testing.html  It's honestly really hard to say if she took or not. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any better help to you! (Please forgive me in the delay on getting back to you sooner. We had a small crisis at home our selves.)

QUESTION: What is the best time to do a frozen semen breeding? I was told the first time at progestrone 9 and again the next day, is'nt that too soon? please give me your opinion. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kristin! A dog usually ovulates when her progesterone reaches 5 or 6. Frozen sperm doesn't live as long as fresh sperm, so you have to take into account all of that. I'm going to give you a web site that can explain progesterone, testing, frozen sperm, ect., much better that I can. It explains everything you need to know, ovulation, when the eggs are fertile, everything! :-)
