Question
hi, we recently got a rescued springer spaniel aprrox 18mths old from a lady who rehomed dogs. problem is she came with no history whatsoever (not even a name). she is settling in well, house trained and knows sit, shes a lovely nature. the only concern i have is that she nips/ play bites when she's feeling playfull and refuses to drop a toy when you ask her to fetch, shes very possesive, she also nips when you try to get the toy (or something shes not supposed to have) off her. not every time but often enough to worry me as i have 2 small children who i have to say she hasn't tried nipping yet(just me and my husband). is it because shes settling in as shes only been here 3 days, or could this get worse. what can i do to stop her. we are currently training her to sit and lay down, using treats which is working. do you think she will stop bitting when she has started to learn more commands and who is the boss. thanks

Answer
Yes training is what I always recomend,so that is good that you are doing that-and I would even go a step farther and look into obediance schools,as you want this sorted out as soon as you can esp when you have children

but you are definatly going in the right direction in training her as soon as you get her
