Potty training my chiuhauha/terrier mix

Question
I have been litter training my puppy since I have had him. He is almost 4 months old now. He does really good urinating in the litter box, but he absolutley will not poop in it. Do you have any suggestions? Should I try to start training him outdoors or would this just confuse him more?

I also was wondering if puppies have to be a certain age to start giving them baths?

Thanks so much!

Answer
first thing you should remember is that once you start training a behavior, stick to it consistancy is key. try getting another litter box, as most dogs will not poop where they pee. they like distance between where they pee and poop. They do this because they mark their territory. also dogs are not cats so they do not cover their poop, so the location should be, away from where they eat and sleep. if you do eventually want to train him to go out doors you can gradualy move the litter towards the door. then outside. remember that your puppy doesn not have the control that an adult dog does. so observation/supervision is key to any training.

As for bathing any age is ok, just take care around the eyes, and ears to keep them healthy, and avoid getting soap in the eyes. Use a puppy formulated shampoo or a baby shampoo, on young puppies.

thanks for your question
