Question
Hi, I'm thinking of adopting a puppy, I have cunsulted with dog breeders and few knowledgable person and from other dog communities about which dog should I go for.

I'm looking for a large guard dog breed. And I was told many name few of them are. Kangal, Akbash, Bully Kutta, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Tosa Inu, Tibetan Mastiff, Swinford Bandogge etc.

Anyway as most of the dogs are not available in india so I think I can go for one of the 2 good breeds which are 1.Tibetan Mastiff and 2.Rottweiler but any better breed is much appriciated.

Can you please tell me the Positive points and flaws of both these dogs.

And Dogs I'm not interested:-
1.Dobe
2.German Shepherd Dog
3.Labradore
4.Golden Retriever
5.Boxer
6.Toy Dogs
and breeds like these...

This is to notify you that I'm not planing to buy a dog for any kind of dog fight, so don't misunderstand me...

Answer
Srijan, I want to correct the information I gave to you regarding the Swinford Bandogge. This 'breed' is actually a cross between the pit bull and the ENGLISH Mastiff, NOT the Neopolitan Mastiff.

From www.dogbreedinfo.com, "It is a self-confident, watchful, and patient dog who is gentle-natured towards his family....Responds well to gentle, patient training. This breed loves to please and needs lots of companionship....A born guard dog, brave and loyal. When strangers visit, it is likely to refuse to let them in unless they are accepted by its handler. The Mastiff generally holds intruders at bay rather than attacking. Protection training is unnecessary for this naturally protective breed. It is very possessive of home, family and car. It may be combative with other dogs if not very well socialized as a puppy...The Mastiff tends to drool, wheeze and snore loudly. They can be somewhat difficult to train."
