toy poodle grooming problems

Question
My toy poodle is 19 months old and has been getting groomed since he was old enough to go.  We moved in September and had to go to a new groomer.  We had gone to Petco in our old town and there was one close to my new job so we started going there.  He hates it.  The groomer told me today that she can't take him anymore - he won't let her work with him at all.  She told me that it had been taking 3 of them to groom him and now he is even worse.  He is only about a foot tall and weighs 14 pounds.  He was nutured at 5 or 6 months old.  Should I have him sedated for another groomer (petco will not groom sedated dogs) or is there groomer training I can take him too?  I could cut his hair for him myself but I don't think I can do his feet, ears and anal glands like he needs.  I need advice.

Answer
Since the groomers at Petco aren't concerned at losing your business, perhaps ask them about a groomer training place.  If where you are is big enough to have a Petco, it should have other groomers too.  If you dog is difficult, you may have to pay a little more for an experienced groomer.

How does he behave for you?  If you are having trouble, perhaps he needs better leadership.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Don't make the mistake of not taking a dog seriously because it is a toy Poodle.  Too many people let cute little dog get away with ill behavior because they are cute little dogs.  Once he is trained to behave well for you, he may do better for a groomer.
