larvae on dog

my dog had a hot spot on the top of tail next to hind side, a few days ago i noticed what looked like big maggots inch long , i sprayed him with flea spray and they came out of little holes, obvious there   was a nest under his skin my question is what are they and can i spray my yard with something to eliminate future contaminations. they were huge 4 times larger  than any maggot i've ever seen.  i live in central west . thank you m boyd

You had better check with your vet on the best thing to put on him for this. I suspect the maggots are fly larvae and there is no way to eliminate them as flies are everywhere. Your vet can give you something to help clear up the hot spot, but I would minimize the dog's time outside until that has healed.
