What breed of dog to buy?

Question
We are looking into getting a new puppy and are having a hard time deciding what breed to get. We had a lab until he passed away a few years ago and he was terrific, but we are thinking that a small dog would be better suited for us these days. We want a breed that does not get too big, we'd like it to be able to travel in the car with us, we also need a dog that is good with kids, does not shed too much and preferably a short hair. What breeds can you recommend we look at?

Answer
My first choice would be a Boston Terrier,as they are great with kids, are small and also have short hair and don't shed much-and are also very smart dogs

Another choice would be a beagle as they are also known for being great with kids, the downfall is they shed a lot and can be vocal, and can be stubborn

Shi Tzus are great dogs as well, and are noted for being family dogs, but they do have a long coat, but can be kept short if taken to the groomer's often and don't shed-and the same can be said for poodles are well, and poodles are one of the easiest dogs to train, but they do have a coat that needs to be brushed/clipped

Also another good idea is to go to your local shelter and explain to the staff what you are looking for,and sometimes they know of a dog/puppy that would be perfect for you
