My dogs seems to be losing weight

Question
When I got Sasha, she weighed about 13 pounds. She was put on the W/D diet. I don't know why. I suppose it is because she has a sensitive stomach(what the vet told me). That was seven weeks ago. She now weighs about 12. She is a tween. Her spine and ribs show a bit. I have gone to a dachshund website, where many people have suggested changing her food to a more richer diet without grains. She is fed in the morning about 3/4 a cup and 1/4 in the afternoon. Can you please tell me what's going on? Is there any way I can help her gain weight or do you suppose I change her diet?

Answer
It sounds like she was put on Science diet. I don't recommend, nor will I ever, science diet. Most vets will recommend science diet because we are told to in vet school- the company pays a LOT of money to vet schools. But vets are also only given 2 weeks of one symester on diet and nutrition.

W/D is essentially carboard or sawdust, and thats probably why she is loosing weight.

I agree with what you were told on the dachshund website. A richer food with high protein levels, lower fat and no grains is the way to go. Perhaps Innova EVO, or Wellness CORE, or Taste of the Wild. Even blue buffalo wilderness, available at petsmart.
