potty training, cant find answers anywhere!

Question
My husband and I adopted a puppy about two months ago. He's anywhere from 6-8 months (they didn't know his age). We've been trying to potty train him and it's damn near impossible. When we take him outside, he goes, but he keeps peeing in the house when he has to go. He give us no sign at all that he even needs to go! There's no whining, no staring at the door, no pacing around, sniffing around, there is literally no change in his behavior whatsoever. He's sitting there while I pet him and he'll pee. He's playing with our other dog (who is fully potty trained) and he'll pee. I'm beginning to think he pees on the floor to let us know he has to go!

Please don't tell me to try crate training because we have and it does not work. We've also tried ignoring him when he goes in the house (the whole clean it up, leash him up, and take him outside to go without talking to him until he pees outside), rubbing his nose in it, and hitting him (which has gotten us the most results, but I hate doing it).

I understand we've only had him for two months and he's a puppy still, but we haven't seen any improvement whatsoever. We are very distressed about this, and I think our puppy is to. How can we teach him to let us know when he has to potty? Because I think if he knew how to let us know, we wouldn't have this problem.

Thank you so much for reading this, and if you can answer thank you even more!

Answer
Hi there..unfortunately it sounds more like excitable piddling then pottying which takes some in home obedience. It is hard for me to tell without seeing your dog. If in fact it is a housebreaking issue then i have never met a dog that can not be trained by crate training. In fact i often take in puppies and start the crate training and housebreaking and then give the dogs back. the biggest key to housebreaking at all is to praise the dog when he goes in the proper place. I think if you have tried everything then i go back to excitable piddling, a local behaviorist may be able to tell you without charge. thanks and good luck
