Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I took my Chihuahua last week because he was vomiting my vet told me that he might have worms so they gave him a de wormer he was fine the first few days but yesterday he started to vomit again and he is not eating or barely drinking water and he can barely walk or stand up and he is also gotten very skinny worse than when i took him to the vet...what should i do?...how can i keep him hydrated?...could it be an overdose?

ANSWER: get him to the vet right away,  a different one if possible...to hydrate him give him 2 ounces of water in a fleet enema bottle,  TAKE OUT THE LIQUID THAT IS IN THERE TO MAKE YOU GO TO THE BATHROOM AND PUT PLAIN WARM WATER IN IT.  INSERT IN HIS RECTUM AND SLOWLY PUT THE WATER IN...THAT WILL HYDRATE HIM until you can get him to the vet ASAP

QUESTION: He is better i did what you said and he was really dehydrated... they put iv on him so he can be hydrated and gave him diet food..he is not vomiting anymore and i see him better. The vet told me that he had gastritis ...little by little he is getting better but i am still confused as how he could have gotten gastritis..he does not eat table food and we are always watching him.Thank You again for writing to me soon..your advice wa svery helpful.

Answer
Oh Heidy I am soooo glad he is doing better.  Was the vet mad at me for telling you to hydrate him that way?  It is the way you would hydrate a very young infant in an emergency and I have saved two dogs lives doing that until i could get to the vet.
Just like humans have different weaknesses, so do dogs.  He may just be prone to this problem.  It could be genetics or an immature system.  Just be very careful what he eats and don't let him overeat at one meal, rather give him many small meals per day.
warmest regards,
