Question
QUESTION: My shitzu just died. I don't know what happened exactly and it's killing me. She ate a piece of milky way and became ill she had diahrrea and was vomiting. However after several vet visits she did not get better. The vet insisted in treating her as if she was rat poisoned butI told him that it was very unlikely and I emphasized on the chocolate he treated her with vitamin k. I forced fed her regularly and hydrated her as i was told but she continued vomitting and with diahrrea and never got better. Finally after almost 3 weeks she died while I was at work. I have investigated how poisonous chocolate can be for a dog and it seems that the quantity that she ate(3/4 of a small halloween milky way chocolate) couldn't have killed her.I would just like to know if the vet did what he was supposed to do. I feel that she suffered to long.

ANSWER: How old was your girl? There is a slight possibility that the chocolate could've killed her. Had she never had chocolate before? Was it dark chocolate or milk? Milky way makes both.
Dark chocolate can be HIGHLY toxic to dogs and in that case, it very easily could've been. Otherwise I would wonder about disease, had she an elevated temp? Did she feel bad the day before or was this sudden? Did she have bleeding with the diahrreah?
Give me some more information and I'll see if I can help you out. I am so very sorry for your loss.

QUESTION: He was only 1 1/2 year old. About the chocolate it is the regular milky way chocolate the one with caramel in the middle. It took her 3 days to develop symptoms like bloody diahrrea and vomiting. The bloody diahrrea stopped after she was given the vitamin  k, but she continued with watery diahrrea and vomiting until the day she died. Before I left to work I forced fed her Soup but she vomitted. When I came home she had died next to her vomit there was no stool anywhere.

Answer
That really doesn't sound like chocolate was the problem. Did your vet do any blood work? Stool samples? Checking for parasites, parvo tests, something she might've eaten (like a splintered bone or something that could've injured her) There are tests that can be done that can tell your vet if it was rat poison or if she were suffering from something else. Was there any bleeding from her gums, or any other area? Did she have a fever? Most vet's are good caring dr's but sometimes they do make mistakes. While nothing will bring your baby back. I Know it would make you feel even worse to know that your baby wasn't treated appropriately. I hope that wasn't the case.
