Answer
Hi Yolanda,

Chihuahua's can vary in size and weight. More than how much your dog actually weighs, it's more important to know if she is over weight or not. At the following web site there is a chart to help you evaluate your dog to see if she's over weight or not:

To be healthy, your dog needs to eat more than mainly treats. She needs a good quality dog food to be her primary diet, and limit her treats to once or twice a day.
It's best to feed your dog twice a day, don't worry she's not going hungry! Dogs are scavengers, and learn very quickly to beg for food, but that doesn't mean they're hungry!

The dog food you choose depends on how much you can afford to pay. The best quality foods use human grade ingredients, with limited grains. Although more expensive, you feed less of the premium foods because they are more nutritionally dense. Many of the supermarket brands use inexpensive fillers and lesser quality protein choices. If you'd like to get back to me, and tell me what you're currently feeding your dog, I'd be happy to suggest other dog food options.

Best of luck,
Patti
