Hi,

I have a 12 week old puggle puppy.  We are feeding him what the pet store recommends, Nature Variety -- both Instinct Chicken and Prairie -- Beef variety.  The problem is that he has never had real solid stools since we have brought him home. I've checked Nature's Variety chart to be sure we are not over feeding him.  We are having a real hard time potty training him and he poops around 8 times a day.  Isn't that excessive?  He even needs to go out at night.  He has had all required shots and wormings for his age.  Could this premium food be the problem even though it is mostly meat?  Thank you!

Wow, too many poops!  Yes, you are correct.  HOW about home cooking for this kid for a few weeks and then going to a new food:
I will give you a recipe to calm the belly.

For food -
I would like you to look for Innova PUPPY, Merrick PUPPY or Chicken Soup for the PUP lover's Soul  - all sold at most pet stores / call around...

HOME cooking:

Chicken Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
1/2 skinless chicken breast meat, poached and shredded  ( COOKED)
1/4 cup steamed vegetables, cubed  or grated...mush

Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish. Add chicken and veggies.
Sprinkle with crushed dog vitamins. ( see NuVET wafers below)


Hamburger Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
1/2 lean hamburger meat, fat drained and crumbled
1/4 cup steamed vegetables, cubed- mushed
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish. Add hamburger and veggies. Sprinkle with crushed dog vitamins.

My plan should work for your baby - Also, you may want the vet to check for worms...
