Question
hi i am pet sitting 2 cavalier spaniels who are constatly hungry. They are on a dry food diet only to lose weight but I feel it is not sufficent for them. Any suggestions please? I think they need pasta or rice with meat and veg? If I ate biscuits all day they would not fill me either? thanks Bronwyn

Answer
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM PASTA/RICE...these are wheat products and some dogs are highly allergic to grains. I am not surprised that they are hungry because the owners of those dogs are killing them nutritionally. All of that commercial dry food is the WORST ANYONE COULD FEED A DOG. PEOPLE DO IT CAUSE THEY ARE LAZY...PERIOD. bUT ALL KIBBLES AND DRY FOODS (WET TOO, BUT DRY IN PARTICULAR) ARE RUINING THE DOGS KIDNEYS AND LIVER BECAUSE THEY ARE FULL OF SYNTHETIC GARBAGE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NATURAL ABOUT FEEDING DRY OR BISCUITS AND THE DOGS ARE HUNGRY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ABSORBING THIS FOOD PROPERLY...THAT'S THE SIMPLY ANSWER.

Keep in mind that you're are pet sitting and whatever you start, the owners probably won't continue. Therefore it would be cruel to get these dogs used to anything healthy under your watch. It will probably be pulled away from them as soon as they get home. What a shame that these dogs are being fed such an inappropriate diet..it breaks my heart.

If you are going to add something, make it, at least, something healthy like steamed, lean meats and pulverized veggies. BUT, here again, you have to be careful. Dogs have a very fragile digestive tract and if introduce anything different, too quickly, you are asking for diarrhea and problems...at this happens sometimes.

You are between a rock and hard place and I hate to see you start something that will be stopped as soon as they get home. I hate to see you introduce anything too fast..you could be asking for trouble. I guess it's too much to expect that these people have these dogs on a good probiotic and digestive enzyme???

Feel free to write back if you like. I feel bad for you and these poor dogs. You can show this response to those owners if you like. I would love to see these dogs on REAL FOOD and not the dry, dead food they are currently eating which renders them hungry all of the time. Susan
