tear stains/food

i have a 9 month old shih tzu and he has heavy tear stains what can i do to make it go away i used some products from pets smart but they did not work is there anything i can do naturally to help this, and also i was wondering if i should stop feeding him dog food since i read on the net how bad it can be for them b/c of all the things that go into it, should i feed him human food, or what dog food can i buy that is free of all the junk that is not supposed to be in there in the first place.

I feed Purina pro plan selects turkey its all natural and I don't seem to have problems with eye staining.  I also pull the hair from the inside corner of the eyes where the tears drain from. You can also mix 1/2 peroxide (the kind you clean boo boos with) and 1/2 water and dab with a cotton ball daily to kill the bacteria that causes the staining.  Wash the face with no more tears baby shampoo and baking soda (mix it into a paste form in your hand) let it sit on the stain for at least 5 minutes and then rinse it out.  Condition the face with a moisturizing conditioner (rinse).  When the face is dry to get that face extra white take a little corn starch and a blush brush and brush it in to the stained area and TAD AH beautiful white face.  You can use this same technique on pee stained areas as well.
