Ist heat

QUESTION: My vet did not take care of my Shih Tzu before she went into heat.She said she was a early bloomer. I have no experience with this and nshe was not much help. She bled very little and most of the swelling is gone but she has a dark spotn now in that   the area area about the size of a dime. Is this normal? she has only been out to potty in my fenced back yard so I do not think she has mated.

ANSWER: Hi Connie, I think she is ok, they can spot for a little bit of time after the heat.  They can bleed up to 21 days and this will happen only 2 x per year.
Please go to another vet for the spay.  They can come into heat between 6 months and 12 months.
My little maltese did not go into heat until 12 months of age.  ( it depends on the genetics of the pet momma)

QUESTION: What about the round dark spot. It looks like it is right on her private area about the size of a dime. You can tell I know nothing about what all this is called so we will go with private area.

Vaginal area or utrethra area; Call the vet and have them take a look.  I am unsure as to what this could be.  Many times they can have discoloration on the belly and in between the legs.
You will be getting her spayed and I am sure they will do a good check up on her.
