Question
I wanted to own a toy poodle but my kids got asthma inherited from their grandma..but got long curly hair. Will their hair triger allergy to my kids?
thanks!

Answer
Poodles, unlike other breeds, have hair, not fur.  There are actually some geneticists who consider poodles a category of canine apart from others.  Poodles also see in color, unlike other breeds who just see in black & white.

Because of the nappy hair, they don't shed and have little if any 'dander'.  I have always had allergies, and my folks got a poodle because I was allergic to so much.  I never had any problem with it, and if you keep your poodle brushed and bathe him/her regularly using conditioning shampoo (with moisturizer) there shouldn't be any problem I wouldn't think.  I speak only to allergies. I doubt it would trigger an asthma attack, but I truly have never had asthma, so I'm not sure how it would affect someone.  Assuming the reaction is much the same as allergic reactions, I'd say you should have no problem, but that is an assumption on my part.

Another way to lessen the possibility of any reaction is to keep the poodle clipped fairly closely, so the hair isn't too long.

They are such a bright and loving animal that I'd hate to see you miss out on owning one.

Good luck!
