Maltese agression

Question
Scout is 1 1/2yrs and a male. He has never been with other dogs. He's seen them and has come close enough to sniff them without any aggression ( this was about 6 months ago)just barking and barking at them, but never growling and trying to bite them. He met my sons puppy, a 3 month English Bulldog and did not want him near him. He was extremely aggressive with him. It truly was a NIGHTMARE. Scout is very loved and spoiled. I blame myself for this problem because I never wanted him to be with other dogs. I was being extremely over-protective, and still am. Please help me to stop this loving dog from being so aggressive to other dogs. Thank you

Answer
i had a similar problem believe it or not and your right it is the owners fault for not socialising the dpg properley, when a dog would come near my pup on a walk i would scoop him up in my arms away from the dogs and like you i did not feel the need for him to be around other dogs which did become a problem when we went on hols as everyone willing to look after him had a dog lol!!!
when you keep your dogs away from other dogs it gives them sort of an "attitude problem"
especially if they are spoilt as they want all the attention what they are used to.
let me suggest you walk your dog out away from your dogs own territory with your sons pup, side by side as this time is when they become a pack however make sure he is calm before you set off ie no barking growling obsessivley sitting calmly this may take a while make this a regular thing then eventually let the dogs near each other they will know each other by now and hopefully they will socialise.

what the problem is is that it is natural for dogs to smell each other on meeting and although some owners like ouselves are fearfull of other dogs so close to our babies lol it is quite natural for them and by not letting them do it from being a young effects their experience in this situation.

please bear with your dog i know it can be annoying and even embarrassing at times but, it is a problem that can be resolved believe me!!
please let me know if you need any more help.
and good luck youll need it lol
