Question
I'm wondering what to feed my 12 year old Maltese who's been having diarrhea, has been treated by our vet, recent diet chicken and rice, prior to that Orijen kibble, deli turkey and canned pumpkin.
Can you recommend good canned foods, kibble and recipes I may want to try?

Answer
Hi Barb, Poor little Maltese.  I hope the Vet did do a Stool test?
Here are some easy and bland recipes.  ( She can stay on them long term- just make sure you use the NuVet supplement to balance out her diet)

Hamburger Meal

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta  ( YOU can OMIT the Rice and Pasta )/ * Use x-tra cottage cheese:
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese ( Must be NON fat)
1/2  pound lean hamburger meat, fat  "drained" and crumbled  - Cooked meat
1/4 cup steamed ( cooked ) vegetables, cubed  ( peas?  green beans : diced very small)
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish.
Add hamburger and veggies.

( you can feed 1/2 cup of this food mixture 2 x per day)
Or you can do 3/4 cup in the am
Then, 1/2 cup in the Pm???
Just work with the amounts - you can always add a little more.

All the dogs I work with take 1/2 to 1 full teaspoon of NuVET supplements per day.
They also make a Wafer of the NuVET Plus

TELL them Pet Nurse Marie is working with you on HOME-Cooking recipes.

YOUR baby can stay on the Bland diet if you include the vitamins daily.
It will balance out the home-cooking.

I have many advanced recipes we can graduate your Maltese to over time.

YOU can also give 1/2 of a Pepto Bismol CAPLET ( 1 per day )- MOST vets do allow this.

Call your vet if you are unsure...
We sue Pepto often for this type of doggie belly problem.  ( Short term usage)

Continue with the canned pumpkin -  just 1-2 teaspoons per day.

For treats - give her some Cherrios -  Yes, just the good old Plain cheerios cereal - 1/8 of a cup per day for a snack.

Keep me posted
