maltese questions

Hi. I have a few questions about maltese. First, do they shed if the coat is kept short? Also, how often should the following be done:

toenails clipped
ear cleaning
bath
brush out
teeth cleaning

Hello there sorry it has taken me so long to reply,
Well everyone does things differently but here is how i approach your questions.

Maltese dont shed their fur is more like hair i tend to keep mine fairly short to avoid matting as i take mine on long walks and he tends to get dirty easy. But never shave a maltese it effects their skin i have had many problems with this in the past.

I tend to bath mine about every two weeks to keep fresh and use johnsons talcom powder in between to freshen their coat.

However like i mention after long walks bathing is nesecary any therefore i sometimes bath more often. As a puppy i used to bath in the s ink with a jug but as older i use the bath.
I clip toenails every 2- 4 weeks never cut close to quick of nails.
I think you will find that grooming will be needed every week or every other week to avoid matting of the coat a slicker brush should help you with this.

Teeth cleaning definatley every week to prevent that awful doggy breath maltese breath should always be sweet.
Feed raw hide as treats to eliminate tartar. dry dog food with kibbles can prevent this

My vet advised me teeth brushing everyother day as they get older but it is best to get them used to this as a puppy.
