Maltese allergies/ chews paws; itching; pet nurse marie;

Question
Our 5 yr. old boy keeps chewing his feet until they bleed.  He have had him to the vet 5 times in 3 months.  He has had antibiotics, steroids & hyper meds. We have a cone around his head and he has been on Iams since we have had him.  He was changed to a non allergenic food by the vet.  He still chews.  I know it may be his food but have you ever heard of a dog being allergic to a wool rug?  We also have put red lava rocks in the flower bed he gets into.  Any advice??

Pat- Let's make some changes... VETs do not have much training when it comes to food, supplements and allergies.
I have a Maltese, too!  What a sweet breed of dog!!!

Ok, here is what I would do:

1.  Buy some Acidophilus 1 billion CFUs - can be found at most human Health food stores:  Give this baby 1/2 per day of the Acidophilus/
