Question
Hi i have just bought a lab yellow female of 2 months old.  She is weighing 9kgs.  Is her weight right for her age? How much weight must she put on weekly?  Also since past few days she has lost interest in food (we give her ProPac Performance Puppy, as the breeder used to feed her the same brand).  Why is she not early properly now a days.  Also we would like to breed her in future so what is the right age of breeding a lab? And by when will she start her heat cycle?  Kindly Respond. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello, I havent a clue if shes of ideal weight or how much weight she is to put on weekly I do know as long as you cant see her ribs but can easily feel them shes not underweight. Puppies and dogs of all kinds loose intrest in there food all too offen and the only thing I could do when my dogs were puppies was to leave it down or offer it more offen. You can try portioned feedings, offer some of her meal in the morning, after noon and evening leaving the food down for only ten to fifteen minutes at a time...it works best for us if I leave the food with the dogs in there crates for this time and then go back late and pick up the dishes. Any bitch should only be bred on her third or forth cycle any earlier and you risk the bitch not being fully matured inside and out leading to pregnacny complications or her ignoring the puppies once born(young mothers offen neglect to properly care for there puppies). So around 2 to 2 1/2 years old would be perfect. My Labrador's first cylce was at 10 months of age and another 10 months after that was her second....then I had her spayed.
