Question
Hello:

I have a 5 year old yellow lab.  He walks twice a day for 15-20 minutes.  He has gained weight and I'm getting worried we feed him at night 2 cup and  half a can of canned food with gravy.   He gets a greenie along with his vitamins in the morning and sometimes a snack during the day.  Is this the right way to feed him or is it better to feed him twice a day and watch the snacks?  Should I change the food??

Answer
Hi,
what type of food are you feeding that says its ok to feed 2 cups daily? My labs lite formula food says no more then 4 cups daily for weight LOSS more for matiance.... you'll have to check the package derections on the dry and canend and make sure he is getting enough calories daily. I reccomend twice daily feeding for any adult dog once in the morning and once in the evening around when you might be eatting yourself (4/5 pm). I dont reccomend greenies they dont digest well at all and are known for causing intestinal blockages....more so then any other chew such as rawhides. snacks and biscuts should be very slim if the dog is over weight they will not help with the weight loss.
