Question
Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I have a 12 month old siberian husky boy. He has for a number of months now not been a very big eater. He's pretty thin, weighs about 20kg. His eating wasn't a problem when he was a puppy but now he generally seems quite disinterested in food. He's just had a number of tests done, bloods, urine, faeces etc but they have all come back clear so it doesn't seem as though there is anything in particular wrong. Can you give me any advice on how to encourage him? Our vet wants him to go on an exclusion diet as he thinks he could possibly be allergic to something he's currently eating and therefore not putting on any weight. Personally, I just don't think he eats enough. The vet has give us a free from everthing food but he really doesn't want it. The only thing he seems to show any sign of eating with any enjoyment at all, is cooked chicken. Can we just feed him that? We have noticed that he eats much better around other dogs, as though the competetion of eating and being part of a pack, suits him. We have tried eating with him, before him, encouraging him in any way we can think of, but with no success. Can you help?

Answer
I have a few questions. Has the dog been like this since you bought or adopted him? If so i think it could be cause he misses his old home. Some dogs and even cats are like that. If that is the problem if you possibly could, get something from their old home and put it where the dog goes most often. The scent of it will comfert him. Also maybe if he likes the companionship of another dog, try getting another dog if you could and see if he gains any more weight. I would most lickly suggust listining and doing what the vet has to say. Stick to your instincts and tell your vet what you think it is. You are the owner and you know more about your dog then what the vet says. Tell him what you think and he will most lickly try to figure out what is wrong with your dog from there.

Hope this helps, and also if you need more help or more questions i am allways availible.
