Hair clipping

Question
My dog is a pom/amer.eskimo mix and her coat is so heavy that she is miserable in summer and I would like to have her clipped short in spring. What can I expect when her hair grows back. Will it become more matted and thicker. I would say her undercoat is double rather then triple like my keeshond was. Thank you

Answer
Since your pet is a mix, there isn't a way to know for certain which breed your dogs attributes will most closely follow.  With Poms, I have shaved them down before and have not had any kind of issue with the hair growing back just as it had been before.  It is importnat for you to keep them brushed ut though since snarles and tangles can become quite painful and they may promote skin irritations as well.
The correct coat type for Poms is a double coat.
The Eskie and Pom are from the same family of spitz dogs as well as the Keeshound.  The double coat consists of a short, dense undercoat, with a longer guard hair growing through it forming the outer coat, which is straight with no curl or wave.
If you feel you are not able to keep up with the coat type of the spitz type dog then it is in the dogs best interest to be shaved down into a lion or bear cut.  Most groomers know this type of cut.
Good luck with your furkid! :-)
